Sanjiv is a born and raised Calgarian, and an Alumni of the University of Calgary. He was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2011, and after working at law firms and with Alberta Justice, he founded Parmar Law in 2016. Sanjiv has experience in child welfare, child representation, family, domestic violence, protection orders, criminal, immigration/refugee claims, human rights/employment, civil law, appeals, adjudications, and mediations. He is a former Crown Counsel with Alberta Justice and has experience working on children's counsel and mediation roster positions.
While still taking contested files, upon availability, Sanjiv has shifted his practise to focus on uncontested files and mediations. He has considerable training, in several mediation styles, and extensive mediation experience. He currently has his Registered Family Mediator and Certified Comprehensive Family Mediator designations, and works on mediator roster positions for family and child protection matters. As a mediator, Sanjiv utilizes his vast experience to assist parties in coming to a resolution on their matters, in many different areas. He is also accepting mediation files for British Columbia clients.
Sanjiv is active in the community and volunteers with numerous community and legal organizations, as well as with post-secondary institutions. He speaks on various topics, including domestic violence, criminal and family law, child welfare, mediations, protection orders, navigating the court, networking, stress management, diversity, anti-racism, harassment, and access to justice. He runs various community clinics. He is a recipient of a Mentor of the Year Award and was a featured lawyer in a spotlight series.
In 2021, Sanjiv was honoured to be appointed to the Law Society of Alberta Board. In 2024, Sanjiv was honoured to be appointed with the King's Counsel designation, awarded to lawyers who are found to have made a significant contribution to the legal profession or public life in Alberta, as determined by the Lieutenant Governor in Council, in areas including competence, professional qualities, contributions to the administration of justice, contributions to the community, and contributions to the legal profession.
