ABOUT US

Sanjiv Parmar, KC, Founder and Owner

Sanjiv is a Calgary native and proud alumnus of the University of Calgary. Admitted to the Alberta Bar in 2011, he has built a diverse legal career through his work with several law firms and Alberta Justice.

In 2016, he founded Parmar Law, where he continues to provide legal services across a broad range of practise areas, including child welfare and child representation, family law, domestic violence and protection orders, criminal law, immigration and refugee matters, personal injury, human rights, employment, regulatory matters, civil litigation—including landlord-tenant, construction, professional, and banking disputes—wills and estates, appeals, mediations, arbitrations, and adjudications.

A former Crown Counsel with Alberta Justice, Sanjiv also trained as children’s counsel on the roster for the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate. His practise includes dispute resolution, hearings, special applications, trials, and appeals. He is highly trained in multiple mediation approaches and holds the Registered Family Mediator (RFM) and Certified Comprehensive Family Mediator (Cert.CFM) designations. He is listed on mediation rosters with the Alberta Family Mediation Society, Family Mediation Canada, the ADR Institute of Canada, and the ADR Institute of Alberta. Having successfully mediated hundreds of matters, he also serves on several government mediation rosters for family, support, and child protection cases. Sanjiv mediates matters for clients in Alberta and British Columbia. He has completed the Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution Certificate and holds the Qualified Arbitrator (QArb) designation. He has also been appointed to the ADR Institute of Canada’s arbitration rosters for matters both over and under $1 million. Sanjiv arbitrates matters across Canada and internationally.

He is fluent in Punjabi, proficient in Hindi, and continuing to develop his French, strengthening his ability to serve a diverse client base.

Beyond his legal practise, Sanjiv is an active community volunteer who contributes to legal and community organizations as well as educational institutions. He is a sought-after speaker on topics including domestic violence, criminal law, family law, child welfare, immigration law, mediation, protection orders, court navigation, networking, practise management, stress management, diversity, anti-racism, harassment, and access to justice. He also organizes and leads community legal clinics, reflecting his commitment to public service.

Sanjiv has received several accolades, including a Mentor of the Year Award, a feature in a prominent lawyer spotlight series, and a nomination for a Most Influential Lawyers Award. In 2021, he was appointed to the Law Society of Alberta Board. In 2024, he received the prestigious King’s Counsel designation, awarded by the Lieutenant Governor in Council to lawyers who have made exceptional contributions to the legal profession and public life in Alberta. The designation recognizes exceptional competence, professional qualities, contributions to the administration of justice, and dedication to the community and the legal profession. In 2026, he was appointed as a Senator with the University of Calgary.
